The LoadDown - 10/04/2010

New week, new games...

WiiWare -- Two games up this week.  Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 3 continues the toddler's educational series, after a lengthy hiatus.  Racers' Island - Crazy Racers is a somewhat redundantly-titled comical racing and shooting game.

Wii Virtual Console -- Another classic SNK fighting game graces the Virtual Console this week -- FATAL FURY 3: ROAD TO THE FINAL VICTORY.  This was the fourth game in the popular Neo-Geo series, originally released in 1995, following Fatal Fury Special (hence why FATAL FURY 3 is actually the FOURTH game in the series!)  And again, Nintendo's official press screenshots are inexplicably low-resolution.

DSiWare -- Two titles this week.  One is Rummikub, an official DSi version of the classic tabletop game.  The big one is the highly-anticipated sequel Shantae: Risky's Revenge, a follow-up to WayForward's cult classic GameBoy Color title starring a cute and saucy belly dancer.

XBox Live Arcade -- Just one new game last week, but it's substantial -- the first episode (three are planned) of Hydrophobia debuts.  It's a first-person survival adventure with shooter elements and a solid dynamic water simulation and physics system.

Game Room -- Four new titles last week.  We get the Intellivision rarity Deep Pocket Billiards, Atari's 2600 version of Missile Command, which is impressively implemented if no touch on the arcade version, and Activision's rareish late release Pressure Cooker.  And we get another obscure Konami arcade game, the sprite-based pseudo-3D racer Hyper Crash.

PS3 on PSN -- Two games last week, both new to the PS3.  The excellent Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light hits the PS3, though the online co-op play feature is still "coming soon" as a post-release update as was and still is the case on the 360.  Swords & Soldiers is a real-time strategy game with a polished cartoon look -- it made a minor splash on WiiWare last year, and is likely a good fit for Sony's growing game lineup.
